Are you looking to restore your smile because of decayed, broken or cracked teeth? Do your teeth have large or fractured fillings? Have you had a root canal or as a cosmetic enhancement? Dental crowns can repair your teeth for a shining smile. Get in touch to learn more about how this treatment can help if you have teeth that are broken, discolored, or even misshapen.

What is a Crown?

When a tooth has been damaged to the point that a filling, inlay or onlay cannot restore it, a crown is used to protect and strengthen the remaining tooth structure. The crown encases the entire tooth surface to restore its natural functionality, shape and color.

What are Crowns Made of?

Most of our crowns are custom-made of tooth-colored porcelain right here in our office using our state-of-the-art CEREC technology. We also utilize professional labs for crowns when necessary. Porcelain crowns are made to match the shape, size and color of your teeth, giving you a natural, long-lasting and beautiful smile. Porcelain dental crowns are highly durable and will last many years. However, like most dental restorations, they may eventually need replacing.

The Crowns Process

When you’re coming to see Dr. Gombert for your dental crown, it usually only takes one appointment.

Your teeth and mouth will be properly anesthetized so you will be completely comfortable during the procedure. Any decay and old filling material will be removed and cracks will be repaired. Our goal will be to maintain as much of your natural tooth as possible during the procedure. The tooth will be shaped to accept porcelain, and then we will perform a 3D scan using CEREC technology. We will use a computer to design the crown so we may maintain your bite while making and designing a beautiful restoration. Once the milling unit prepares the crown, we will try it on for proper fitting and then use cement to cover your natural tooth. Finally, we will place the crown permanently. Eating and normal function will be possible once the numbness wears off.
