If detected early on, tooth decay is addressed with a standard filling or something similar to remove the decay and close off the area. But when the decay spreads beyond the outer tooth and affects the inner portion of the tooth, you will likely need a root canal. Often called an endodontic treatment, root canal therapy at the private practice of Dr. Troy Gombert removes the damaged pulp from the tooth, sanitizes the cavity, and then fills and seals the tooth. Dr. Gombert may recommend a root canal to Chandler, AZ individuals because it treats the infection and keeps the decay from moving to other teeth (creating a larger issue).
If you believe you could benefit from root canal therapy, we understand if you might have reservations about the procedure. Though root canals are a common dental treatment, patients often avoid going to the dentist to address tooth pain because of common dental fears. Dr. Gombert and his staff use their best efforts to help you feel at ease and comfortable, but we also provide a number of sedation options for any fear and anxiety. Call our office to set up a consultation with Dr. Gombert for more information on sedation dentistry and root canals.
"Been going here for 8 years and have referred three others here who enjoy Dr. Gombert's office. Feels like Family, and in all the years I've required treatment, I never had to go back with pain, which does not match my experience at previous 'family dentistry' type of offices. I always go dreading my appointment and leaving thinking "that was so easy and pleasant!". What more can I ask for of my dentist?"- N.K. / Yelp / Mar 07, 2019

"Dr. Gombert and his team are amazing. The office was very clean and nicely decorated. The front office staff called to remind me of my apointment, the new patient paperwork was easily taken care of online before my visit. Treatment plan was thoroughly explained. A friendly face with a good sense of humor is very much welcomed on what can be a tense dentist visit. -George G."- G.G. / Google / Dec 07, 2018
Tooth damage and decay can come from different sources, such as bad crowns, deep decay, repeated dental work, cracks, chips, and trauma. If the problem persists and your tooth's pulp remains unhealthy, this infection can spill out into the bone, becoming a condition referred to as a tooth abscess. The most obvious signs that you could have an infection are tooth pain, jaw pain, swollen and discolored gums, and discoloration of the affected tooth. If the infection is not addressed, the infection will spread, causing increased pain. Set up an appointment with Dr. Gombert right away if you feel or notice any changes in your mouth. If you have anxieties or reservations about going to the dentist, don't hesitate to ask us about sedation dentistry to help you remain calm and at ease during your dental appointments.
What To Expect
Prior to the treatment, your anesthetic/sedation options will be discussed with Dr. Gombert. We do not want you to feel fearful, anxious, or on-edge during your appointment. Some individuals ask for nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or oral-conscious sedation for a root canal. Dr. Gombert is very sympathetic about dental fear, and will try to help you make the necessary decision about your sedation needs.
To perform an endodontic procedure, Dr. Gombert will examine the innermost part of your tooth and extract the decayed pulp. Afterward, the inner chamber will be carefully cleaned to eliminate remaining debris. To finalize the therapy, the tooth is filled with a dental filler to seal and protect it from further decay.
Based on the method of sedation that was chosen, you might need to have an adult drive you home following your root canal. It is natural for your tooth to feel sensitive in the days following your root canal, especially if there was an infection. However, this discomfort can be controlled with over-the-counter pain medication like ibuprofen or aspirin. After the crown is fixed in place, you can continue eating the foods you love and maintain a natural smile. With the proper care for your root canal, the treatment can last as long as your existing natural teeth. We recommend that you set up a follow-up about six months post-procedure. Dr. Gombert will examine the area to make sure the infection has been eradicated and that there is no cause for concern. Afterward, you should continue to schedule yearly dental checkups and twice-yearly dental cleanings to maintain your oral health.
At your consultation, Dr. Gombert will give you cost estimates to align your treatments with your health needs and your budget. If you currently carry dental insurance, we will call your provider to figure out your benefits. If you do not have dental insurance, we take several payment methods and may be able to assist you in finding medical financing options.
