About BOTOX

Many individuals believe that BOTOX is only used for cosmetic purposes, but that is simply not true. It has been recently found that BOTOX can, in fact, treat a series of dental conditions and complement dental work for a more appealing result. Fellowship-trained cosmetic dentist Dr. Troy Gombert uses BOTOX at his private practice in Chandler, AZ. This injectable treatment offers outstanding results and is very common among both women and men. This injectable can make a significant improvement to dynamic lines, which are made from expressive movement with the contracting muscles around your face. This muscle relaxer is a clean and purified strain of type A botulinum toxin that temporarily freezes the movements of the facial muscle.

BOTOX is commonly used in the dental industry for the treatment of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) as it treats the root cause of the condition, muscle dysfunction. It can also be used to treat lip deformities and bruxism. To learn more about BOTOX and the conditions Dr. Gombert can treat with the injectable, schedule a consultation at our Chandler, AZ dental practice.

who are Ideal Candidates for BOTOX?

You may be an ideal candidate for BOTOX treatment by Dr. Gombert if you have one of the following dental conditions or if the treatment would help complete your smile makeover:

  • Temporomandibular joint disorders
  • Bruxism
  • Oromandibular dystonia
  • Mandibular spasm
  • Pathologic clenching
  • Dental implant and surgery
  • Gummy smile
  • Masseteric hypertrophy

how is botox administered?

BOTOX treatments are performed as a very simple outpatient procedure conveniently at Dr. Gombert's office. If it is your first time to visit our office we may perform the treatment on the same day as your initial consultation with Dr. Gombert. You will be asked to make various expressions using your upper face, like frowning, squinting, smiling, etc., to help us to mark where the injections are to be placed. The face will be prepared and BOTOX will be applied with a fine needle, followed with a cool compress to help decrease discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You can ask for a numbing cream to help make the procedure more comfortable, but it usually is unnecessary. BOTOX treatments typically take around 10 – 15 minutes, then you may resume your usual routine almost right away.

What to Expect following botox

Following the procedure, you may get back to your typical routine, although strenuous activity should be skipped for a minimum of one day. You will be advised to sleep with your head elevated for at least one night and to avoid touching your face, which can accidentally spread the BOTOX to other areas. The injected sections of your face can appear bruised, red, or swollen for 2 – 3 days, but you should not develop any severe or lasting side effects. In many cases, it takes around one week before the final results of BOTOX can be seen. The results usually last 3 – 4 months. Dr. Gombert may recommend repeat treatments at your annual examinations.

BOTOX FAQ

How many units/injections will I likely need?

The number of BOTOX treatments provided will differ based on individual goals and the severity and depth of your wrinkles and lines. Our team will suggest the correct quantity of BOTOX injections based on your treatment goals and whether you wish to address the forehead, brow area, or Crow's feet. To maintain your cosmetic results, our experts may suggest getting BOTOX treatments every few months at our office in Chandler, AZ.

Is there a variation among fillers and wrinkle reducers?

Though wrinkle reducers, such as BOTOX Cosmetic, are utilized to decrease facial lines by temporarily blocking muscle engagement, dermal fillers are a separate category of cosmetic solutions that add facial volume. Dermal fillers are intended to plump sunken features and soften static wrinkles. Dr. Gombert and his team can ascertain whether you may benefit from a dermal filler like JUVÉDERM® to complement your BOTOX results.

How long do the effects of BOTOX last?

The effects of BOTOX typically last 3 – 6 months. With regular treatments, the duration of results may increase over time. Maintenance sessions are recommended to sustain the desired results.
